Glass continues to surprise you, even if you think you already understand it a bit. In this work Swirl Rineke first made a kind of ‘beans’ of clear and colored glass. These were placed on a glass plate and melted together in the oven with the expectation that a bump pattern would form. That was true, but the back of the glass plate turned out to be much more interesting. The light refracts the color in the beans to a colored outline with a slightly lighter shade in the core. 

Swirl is mounted on a white perspex plate and then in a nice black baking frame so that it can hang on the wall.
