When working with strips of glass, Rineke was thinking of other natural materials that are made up of layers.
Soon you arrive at slate.
In Canada, there is a pink form of slate that became the inspiration for this work.
Due to the slanted position of the work, the layers of glass seem to slide away from each other as if you were looking into a quarry.
But in bright pink glass, beautiful!
